Expedite: Spec Sheet

Expedite software and Information Exchange gateways

Information Exchange offers a wide variety of ready-to-use communication interface software packages and gateways to help your business get up and running quickly and efficiently. The software packages that transmit both EDI and non-EDI data are installed on your system, while gateways are accessed through a managed network.

Expedite and Expedite Base licensed programs communicate with your Information Exchange commerce engine mailbox to process EDI standard data, non-EDI data, and system files. These programs take advantage of many communication features of Information Exchange, such as distribution support, alias tables, archive capability, audit capability, selective message receive, and a flexible message retention period.

Expedite Base licensed programs provide the infrastructure to exchange both EDI and non-EDI data with Information Exchange. Users will typically write a program that provides an interface between Expedite Base and their applications. The program could be either a GUI interface for a manual operation, or an interface for direct access into an application.

Expedite licensed programs provide a user interface that ensures easy communication setup and transmission of data. Expedite uses the Expedite Base programs for the interface to Information Exchange. Expedite programs provide the GUI interface so you do not need to write interface programs to communicate with Information Exchange.

Expedite Programs

Expedite for Windows
Provides a GUI interface to ease the programming of file handling. In addition, the user can use a well-defined C-language API to code applications that integrate EDI into applications. It uses TCP/IP as a communications protocol.

Expedite/CICS*
Enables MVS host processors to communicate with the Information Exchange mailbox service using the logical unit (LU) 6.2 protocol and the TCP/IP. It allows 3270 terminal users and CICS programs to send, receive, and manage EDI files and electronic mail messages. Expedite/CICS supports receiving files from Information Exchange by either a continuous receive or a batch receive request.

Expedite Base Programs

Expedite Base for Windows
Interfaces with user-written application programs on Windows based systems.

Expedite Base for SCO** Open Server
Interfaces with user-written application programs on SCO Open Server based systems.

Expedite Base/AIX* for RS/6000
Interfaces with user-written application programs on RS/6000 based systems.

Expedite Base/400
Interfaces with user-written application programs on AS/400 based systems.

Expedite Base/MVS*
Enables MVS host processors to communicate with Information Exchange. Expedite Base/MVS supports sending and receiving files in a batch mode, and communicates with Information Exchange through SNA, TCP/IP, or SSL TCP/IP.

Gateways to Information Exchange

Expedite/Direct
This interface connects your RJE workstation to Information Exchange. Using Expedite/Direct commands, you can send and receive data and define nicknames and lists for your trading partners. Expedite/Direct supports both EDI data and non-EDI Data. For sending and receiving EDI data, Expedite/Direct supports the following formats:

  • ANSI ASC X12
  • UCS
  • UN/EDIFACT
  • UN/TD
You can use Expedite/Direct to send or receive more than one data set, EDI as well as non-EDI, in a single session. If you specify you want to receive all your messages at once, Expedite/Direct sends them to you as one data set.
Expedite/Async
This gateway to Information Exchange enables you to send and receive EDI and non-EDI data, using a variety of asynchronous (ASYNC) communications products that may already be installed on your local computers. Expedite/Async supports the following asynchronous file transfer protocols:

  • XMODEM
  • 1KXMODEM
  • YMODEM
  • ZMODEM
  • ANSI Clear
Information Exchange supports both ASYNC and ANSI Clear command sets for asynchronous communications, making it simple to send and receive data.
TCP/IP FTP gateway for the Internet
The TCP/IP FTP gateway for the Internet enables Information Exchange to function like an FTP server. You can use FTP not only through Managed Data Network Services but over the Internet as well. If you are a TCP/IP user, you can send and receive EDI transactions using your existing communications method. In addition, you can benefit from a variety of features including retrieving audit trail information, retrieving archived data, using libraries, and listing the contents of your Information Exchange mailbox.
